West Platte’s Vincent places 6th at State

West Platte High School boys wrestler Cuin Vincent had a memorable run in his sophomore season, placing sixth in Class 1 at the 95th Boys MSHSAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Mizzou Arena.

Just four nights after finish- ing second in districts, Vincent was back on the mat for the most consequential match- ups of his wrestling career at the 132-pound division on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Vincent’s journey in Colum- bia got off to a successful start, defeating Fatima’s Logan Laux with an 8-6 decision in the opening championship round. In the quarterfinal, he lost a 6-2 decision against Lone Jack’s Ty White, sending Vincent to the consolations for Day 2.

In consolation round 2, Vincent grabbed a 16-6 major deci- sion victory 16-6 over Holden’s Graysen Thieman. Vincent kept rolling in the consolation round 3, earning a 13-4 major decision win after defeat- ing Lathrop’s Rylee Dupignac again after pinning him in the district semifinal.
The consolation semifinal provided Vincent with a route into the third-place match, but he was unable to make it a reality. Vincent got pinned at 1:52 in the consolation semifinal against Marceline’s Andrew Griffin in the consolation semifinal, sending Vincent into the fifth-place match.

Vincent’s final bout for fifth place didn’t last long, settling for sixth in the state after get- ting pinned 56 seconds into the contest against Brookfield’s Ryder Techau.

After narrowly missing out on a trip to state as a freshman, Vincent concluded this season with his first state appearance, leading West Platte with a sea- son record of 38-14. He was the Blue Jays’ highest-finishing district and state wrestler.
