Platte City looks into creation of parks master plan

The City of Platte City is accepting requests for proposals to develop a parks and recreation master plan.

The city will accept proposals until March 3. The city is seeking proposals from qualified firms or consultants to assist in the development of a comprehensive master plan for the future of its parks and recreational facilities. The selected consultant will work closely with city officials, community stakeholders, and relevant departments to assess the current state of the city’s parks, identify community needs, and create a long-term strategic plan.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Committee agreed to move forward with the RFP process at its Jan. 13 meeting after a discussion with City Administrator Tom Cole.

POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OFF HWY HH

Cole also spoke with members of the city’s Economic Development Committee last month, stating he wants a recommendation for what kind of development the city wants to see on the more than 38 acres at the southeast corner of Hwy. HH  and Highway 92.

Two, possibly three, groups have expressed interest in the property and Mayor Steve Hoeger discussed the need for a strategic plan, noting the time it takes to develop. Cole explained that the city could put out a request for an RFP to all developers to expedite the development. Cole stated he would come back in the February meeting with information on the RFP.
