Lindsay Ramsey isn’t just winning races—she’s rewriting history in Class 2 girls track and field.
The North Platte senior has been a part of the Panthers’ three straight state championships, cementing a spot among Missouri’s all-time greats in girls track and field. With multiple state records and a dozen all-state honors to her name, Ramsey is the driving force behind a program in the midst of a golden era of pure dominance.
The Panthers are the 16th girls track and field program in state history to win three consecutive state championships, with Ramsey carrying the load as a defending three-time individual state champion. If they complete the four-peat, they will become the seventh team to do so.
North Platte’s historic senior sprinter is a 12-time all-state honoree after winning state championships last May in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dash. Ramsey, who is now a back-to-back state champion in the 400m, set Class 2 records in the 200 and 400-meter races and single-handedly scored 36 of North Platte’s 45 points, outscoring the 35 points scored by second-place Jefferson (Festus).
Senior distance runner Brianna DeBord and senior thrower Marissa Wortham are looking to conclude their careers with state medals. After graduating three seniors from last year, the Panthers think they have some new talent that will contribute to another successful season ahead.
“A strong group of freshmen will work to strengthen our throws program and put us in a place to compete in the field events as well as on the track,” said co-coach Brendan Cary, who is in his 14th season and leads North Platte’s distance runners.
The Panthers’ distance team will be led by DeBord and junior Chloe Heckman. Heckman is looking to move up the ladder after medaling fourth in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600 last year at state.
The only thing left for Ramsey to get is first place in the 4x400m relay, which she anchored and took third place in last year alongside returning juniors Morgan Ball and Graci Williams. Their relay won their heat but lost out to Skyline in the finals, but co-coach Matt Keraus will look to improve that as the sprinting coach.
